EFF: Electronic Frontier Foundation – The Digital Rights Organization
EFF is a digital rights organization and is fighting for users since its foundation.
In the recent era, there are many powerful entities forcing the shutdown of online speech, preventing new innovation from reaching the customers, and facilitating government surveillance.
To all these pressures, the EFF is standing strong and consistent challenging the corporate overreach as well as the government abuses of power.
EFF also provide technological assistance to individuals which can help them to increase protection against the privacy and security threats. The EFF technologists build and release these facilities for the public which is free to use by anyone around the world.
Moreover, EFF remains engaged in major legislative fights, beating back digital censorship bills disguised as intellectual property proposals, resisting attempts to compel companies to spy on users, championing reform bills that rein in government surveillance, and much more.
History
EFF was founded in the year 1990 as a result of a case which threats the basic right to speech. The organization was founded by John Gilmore, John Perry Barlow, and Mitch Kapor.
EFF was formed in a response to a series of actions by law enforcement agencies which drive the founders of EFF to think that the authorities are uninformed about the emerging forms of online communication. Therefore, they concluded that there is a need for increased protection for internet civil liberties.
